School's Out!

Poor Brian actually had school 3 days before Christmas. How is that possible? He had volunteered several weeks ago to take both kids to school with him for the last day, and Rory has been more excited than I can tell you. She has informed everyone who walked through our door that she was going to go to her first school party. And judging by the smiles and stories she came home with, it lived up to her expectations. And a big thank you to Brian's friend and fellow teacher, Janelle, because I'm pretty sure she helped out a whole lot in making sure the kids had a good time. Brian says she's going to be a great grandma. :)

Somehow the kids seem a little more excited than Brian here.

On today's agenda is cleaning up this mess of a house, putting together a gingerbread house (heaven help us all), and just enjoying the first day of Christmas break on this cold Friday. Right now the kids are happily playing Iron Chef at the table with playdough supplies and phrases like "walk away, chef" and "I'm doing a better job of mincing than you are" and "what's the secret ingredient again?" are floating through the doorway making me laugh. Yes, we watch alot of Food Network around here.

Who couldn't laugh at those beautiful smiling faces :) We love the food network too and my youngest will often come ask to watch "cooking shows," with me. How fun for the kids to both get to "go to school." I am sure its a memory they won't soon forget :)

Blogging feels awkward these days. Not blogging feels a bit like abandoning an old friend. In this season of life it doesn't feel necessary to jot down every cute quip (and that's only partially because they don't say nearly as many cute things). The kiddos (even that is strange - can I still call a 12 and 9 year old kiddos?) are more likely to say "don't put that on your blog!" Rory still likes the attention, but Camden is feeling the need for privacy. But they also still love to read my words. Cousins, part 3 (the adult version)

So I'm notoriously bad about including adults in the picture when we're all together, and this trip was no exception. Here are the very few that include adults. Becky is always my test subject before the cousin photo shoots. At the baseball game (which was incredibly hot/humid and started nearly an hour late). Kids were pretty wiped out after their naps following the return from camp. 7/52: Pastel

This week's theme was pastel and there's not a whole lot of pastel in our house, much less with my black-eyed, black-haired Korean gal. However, she gave me about 10 minutes of cooperation in 10 degree weather and we attempted a pastel snow picture. The first one is my official pastel picture, but I included the other attempts because it was pretty darn fun. This is a new face I'm seeing often these days. By the way, she has 3 shirts underneath this dress, a pair of pajama pants and a pair of hot pink sweat pants. LOL
